Go away

For God's sake, go away and quit reading my journal, you a-holes that aren't on my friends list. And you know who you are. Get a life.

Food for Thought

I want to discuss this. There is a similar one on the campus that I work at.

My guess is this is not a localized problem. Because apparently there is one at University of Michigan - Dearborn, even the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (their main campus), at University of California San Diego, one at University of Florida, one at University of Maine... you get my drift. They're prevalent.

I have a problem with these. They provide a great service, yes, and I see articles & posts where everyone is congratulating each other for doing such a wonderful thing, patting each other on the back for the good work they're doing. But my question is why do these have to exist at all? In this supposed land of plenty, why are our college students and the staff & faculty having to use these resources? Why does a college student have to choose between food & books or tuition? Why does a grown adult, working for a college, have to choose between food & paying their bills? (And for that, why do our elderly have to choose between medicine & food?)

I think this is disgusting & reprehensible. In this, the supposed 'richest country in the world,' why are our people having to visit food pantries? Students, people working full time, people with degrees... what is wrong with this picture?

There's a quote by Hélder Câmara, an archbishop from Brazil, who said "When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why they are poor, they call me a communist."

Planet Fitness

So, I'm a member of Planet Fitness. I like the place because it's not ridiculously expensive, it has super convenient hours (though I do wish they were an actual 24-hours gym on the weekends, too), and no one is trying to push me into buying/joining classes, making me feel intimidated, and they just generally leave me alone, unless I approach them & ask for something, which they (usually) do in a very friendly & accommodating manner (which is something I wish all places did!)

I saw something a while back about some hashtag on twitter and instagram - I think it was People of Planet Fitness or something stupid like that. And it's basically making fun of the place and the people that go there.

I am so sick of seeing crap like that, and I'd like to point out two things to those assholes:
1. Those people are at least AT THEY GYM trying to do something, whereas you're sitting on your ass making fun of them.
2. The people who are taking the pictures? Um, you either have to be a member or guest of a member to be there, so clearly the picture-takers are judgmental asshats themselves.

And I'd just like to say a big FUCK YOU to those people. Because they suck. Shaming other people & making fun of them for what they wear, what they look like when they go to the gym, trying to get healthy? Yeah, fuck you. So what that Planet Fitness does a 'free pizza' night once a month and a 'free bagel' morning once a month? The people are in the gym, aren't they? And if they're there, they already bought a membership and most people tend to utilize things they pay money for. I know I get mad at my own self if I don't go to the gym at least 3 days a week b/c if I don't I feel like I am not getting my money's worth. It's not like PF does those things every day or weekly or something; it's once a month. Don't tell me that you don't splurge once in a while and have a treat.

I have thankfully not seen anyone at my local gym attempting pictures of people there, but who knows, it might happen. Anyway, what prompted this whole rant was I saw two women on treadmills in front of me the other day. They weren't wearing 'traditional' work out gear but what they were wearing looked comfortable enough to move around in. And they were very large people (and that's judging from my own quite large height/weight - they were a lot bigger than me). And dammit, I was proud of them. I was applauding them in my head because they were on that treadmill going harder than me! One of them was running - RUNNING! I was like damn, my ass can't even run like that/that fast/that long! And I was just so damn proud of them b/c fuck whatever assholes might say, they were going to get healthy.

And shitty attitudes/put downs like what the folks who post those pictures on that dumb hashtag/instagram don't help. They're what makes people ashamed and feel bad about themselves in the first place and give up before even really trying.

So fuck those people. I'm going to be awful here and make a crappy assumption, but those people are probably stupid jerkfaces and have low self esteem. Well, they likely have low self esteem; they are certainly acting like stupid jerkfaces when they do that crap. Which doesn't give them the right to be awful to other people, but I'm going to just go with that explanation. And call them out on their b.s.
Today's entry will be about immigration to the United States. I am going to be as eloquent about it as I can without sinking to a place where all I can do is scream incoherently and curse because I am so frustrated & angry with the ignorance of the populace. This post is being made courtesy of this article about the new law/crackdown on illegal immigrants in Georgia, similar to the b.s. they pulled in Arizona (about which I am still livid!).

Let's begin!***

***Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer. I am not an immigration lawyer. I am actually not even greatly versed in immigration law. I just know a little bit about it based on the information I've learned where I work and what I've researched on my own. I'm just laying it out there for everyone to see. I would urge everyone who has an opinion on immigration & reform to DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH before spouting off something you heard from ranting family members/friends (including me!) or on Fox news, CNN, or any other crappy news source.

Meme - With a TWIST!

I know I haven't been posting much and for that I'm very sorry. :( I promise I read though, even if I don't comment a lot! Guess that's what I get for having a toddler, eh? Hah.

So anyway, I've been wanting to do this meme:
Leave a ONE WORD comment that you think best describes me. It can only be one word. No more than one word. Then copy & paste this post to your own journal so I can leave a word about you.

Except I'm going to do it with a twist - I am going to turn on anonymous commenting & turn off the logging of IP addresses. I generally don't like anon crap b/c I think it's poison & whatever, but I understand where someone sometimes needs a filter to be able to say things they're thinking. There's only so many times you can try to say things nicely to or about someone before things just drive you insane. So I'm giving you that option, right here, right now. Tell me what you REALLY think of me. I don't care if it's one word or 1,000. You can choose to do it anonymously, or you can do it while logged in, either or is fine with me.
My only rule? Don't bash other people in the anon comments.

And now I'm gonna go to bed cuz Emmett has his 15 month check-up in the morning and I should have been asleep a LOOOOOOOONG time ago.

Why Don't You Do Right?

You had plenty money, 1922
You let other women make a fool of you
Why don't you do right, like some other men do?
Get out of here and get me some money too

You're sittin' there and wonderin' what it's all about
You ain't got no money, they will put you out
Why don't you do right, like some other men do?
Get out of here and get me some money too

If you had prepared twenty years ago
You wouldn't be a-wanderin' from door to door
Why don't you do right, like some other men do?
Get out of here and get me some money too

I fell for your jivin' and I took you in
Now all you got to offer me's a drink of gin
Why don't you do right, like some other men do?
Get out of here and get me some money too
Why don't you do right, like some other men do?
Like some other men do
